ABOUT ABOUT

Advance ticket sales have ended but plenty of additional tickets remain available at the door.

Profs and Pints DC presents: “Understanding the Trump Investigations,” with Randall Eliason, former federal prosecutor, professorial lecturer on white-collar criminal law at George Washington University Law School, and contributing columnist for the Washington Post.

It has now been two years since the January 6, 2021 assault on the Capitol and the end of the Trump administration, and a dizzying number of investigations remain swirling around the former president. With the mid-term elections over the cases seem to be heating up. Are the walls closing in on the former president?

Come hear that broad question tackled by Randall Eliason, an expert on federal prosecutions who Washington’s journalists turn to for help in following such matters.

Professor Eliason will help you gain a deeper understanding of each of the major investigations involving Donald Trump, including:

  • The federal criminal investigation into the assault on the Capitol and efforts to overturn the election;
  • The federal criminal investigation into documents that were wrongfully taken from the White House and recovered during an unprecedented search of the former president’s home;
  • A Georgia state criminal investigation into efforts to tamper with the election results in that state;
  • New York state investigations of the Trump Organization and Trump family members for tax fraud and related financial crimes;
  • The Congressional investigation by the January 6 Committee, which recently filed its report and made criminal referrals to the Department of Justice, including of Trump himself.

You will learn about the scope of the different criminal inquiries and where they might lead; the impact of the recent appointment of Jack Smith as a special counsel; what’s really at stake in the case involving documents seized from Mar-a-Lago; how the state investigations relate to the federal cases; and the impact of the Congressional report and criminal referrals.

Before the pandemic Professor Eliason built a huge following among Profs and Pints fans as he gave sold-out talks on the Mueller investigation. Watching his new talk at Little Penn Coffeehouse will make you understand why. (Advance tickets: $13.50 plus sales tax and processing fees. Doors: $17, or $15 with a student ID. Listed time is for doors. Talk starts 30 minutes later. Please allow yourself time to place any orders and get seated and settled in.)
